Diego Gonzalez is a talented left-back with Cadiz who has also attracted interest from AS Roma.
Liverpool has had a rich recent history when it comes to bringing in Spanish talent. Firstly under the stewardship of Spaniard Rafa Benitez the club saw many young Spaniards come into the club over the course of his tenure some of which were great successes like Xabi Alonso or Pepe Reina; while others did not fare so well such as Antonio Nunez.
Now with Brendan Rodgers at the helm with his tiki-taka footballing philosophy the emphasis on technically gifted players in order to help him implement his way of thinking.
That spreads all the way down to the youth teams and it seems their recruitment drive is taking a turn in that direction.
According to Spanish football expert David Jaca on Twitter Liverpool are ready to bring in 16-year-old left-back Diego Gonzalez to the club on a week’s trial.
Described as fast with good technical ability he sounds a little like current Spanish full-back Jose Enrique and he has already made an appearance for his current club Cadiz CF in the Segunda Liga this season; playing five minutes against Albacete in November.
Such is his promise that he has already attracted interest from Real Madrid after it was reported he rejected the offer of a new contract at his current club.
They will also receive competition from Italian side AS Roma; who have good links with Cadiz owner Alessandro Gaucci and were considered to hold the upper hand until this most recent piece of news.
