Liverpool has accepted a £3 million bid from Bolton Wanderers for Jay Spearing, Goal.com can reveal.
The midfielder is set to complete a move to Reebok Stadium in the next few days after the Championship club matched the Merseysiders’ asking price for the 23-year-old.
Contrary to reports, it is understood that Spearing will move to Bolton permanently rather than on a season-long loan.
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has sanctioned the departure of the Academy graduate as he tries to offload fringe players from his squad in the final days of the transfer window.
Rodgers is also willing to listen to offers for Charlie Adam, who has fallen down the Anfield pecking order following the arrivals of Joe Allen from Swansea City and Nuri Sahin on a season-long loan from Real Madrid.
The Northern Irishman has been told he has to raise funds to bring in new faces, as he bids to freshen up Liverpool’s attacking options in the next 72 hours with a wide forward his chief priority.
Spearing’s departure from Liverpool is expected to be confirmed before the transfer deadline on Friday night and is expected to slot straight into the Bolton team, where he will bring tenacity and energy to the midfield.
Spearing has not been named in Liverpool’s matchday squads in their opening two Premier League fixtures although he has featured in all three of their Europa League games and played 67 minutes of the 1-0 win over Hearts last Thursday.
