Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher believes star players Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres will stay at the club this summer.
The duo have been strongly linked with moves away from Anfield following the Reds’ poor form last season which saw them finish seventh in the Premier League, failing to qualify for the Champions League.
Torres has been attracting interest from Chelsea and Manchester City, whose manager Roberto Mancini has confirmed his interest in the striker, while Gerrard has been linked with Real Madrid.
Carragher says he is sure the duo will stay at Anfield and believes the club should be aiming to finish in the top four.
"There's been a lot of negativity and it's been like that for a while," he told ZOO magazine.
"I'm sure that Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres will still be involved at the club next season.
"If they are, then the aim for Liverpool must be to get back into the Champions League."
The 32-year-old admits Liverpool’s expectations have been lowered after their campaign last season and says winning the Premier League is not their aim.
"Liverpool aren't a club like Real Madrid, who can just throw £100 million at it if we don't win the title," he said.
"For clubs like Real Madrid and Inter Milan, it's a disaster if they don't win the league, so they go out and spend big money on new players.
"Liverpool can't do that - we have to build. Next season, rather than thinking too much about the title, we have to concentrate on getting back into the top four.
"It's a rebuilding process again and hopefully we can get ourselves right up there.''
