Liverpool have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of CSKA Moscow star Keisuke Honda after the Japanese international claimed would rather move to Spain.
Honda has been heavily linked with a move to Europe since staring in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa and the Anfield club is understood to be monitoring his progress with a keen eye.
But the midfielder has poured water on a potential move by claiming that if he did leave the Russian side, it would be to move to La Liga.
Honda is quoted as saying by the Daily Star: “CSKA are in the Champions League so staying is not a bad option.
“But I do want to test myself at a higher level if the opportunity arises.
"My preference is still to play Spain."
