Kenny Dalglish has praised the strength and depth of his Liverpool squad following their 5-0 win over Birmingham City.
Argentine midfielder Maxi Rodriguez grabbed a hat-trick in his first appearance for over a month while out of favour Joe Cole also notched late on for Reds.
And Dalglish was pleased that players who haven’t been in the first team of late were able to make such an impact.
“The win was pleasing, I don’t know if we were deserving of 5-0 though,” said Dalglish. “Other people can judge that.
"We passed and moved really well at times and it’s important for us also not to lose any goals at the back, it’s important for Pepe [Reina] who’s been fantastic for the last month or so.
“It’s a great credit to Maxi who has not played too often in the last few weeks but his training has always been very good, he’s an intelligent footballer and the same goes for wee Joe [Cole]. He came on and he got a goal, it might have been an error from the goalkeeper but it still goes down as Joe’s goal.
“[The result shows] the strength of the football club, the quality of the players, the desire of the players and I don’t think you can ask for more than what we got yesterday.
“We’ve got our reward yesterday, we can enjoy it and on Monday morning we start looking forward to Newcastle.”
