Betis Ready To Go For Gonzalez

Newly-appointed Real Betis coach Hector Cuper has approved the Spanish club's move for Liverpool winger Mark Gonzalez.

Betis narrowly avoided relegation from the Primera Liga last season after finishing in 16th place, and are currently busy rebuilding their squad.

Gonzalez, who previously spent a year on loan with Real Sociedad, is thought to be close to finalising his transfer, along with Portuguese goalkeeper Ricardo and Argentina striker Mariano Pavone, after failing to establish himself at Anfield.

"We will do everything possible to create a team that is strong but that also has a winning mentality," said Cuper, who was confirmed at Betis on Monday after signing a one-year contract.

"The important thing is that this team has a strong personality.

"They (the club's prospective new signings) are all very good players. Ricardo has a great mentality, Pavone has played well for two years in Argentina and Gonzalez can improve a lot."

Personal comment: Frankly speaking, I do not understand why Benitez would want to sell of Gonzalez. I do admit that the Chilean is finding it tough to adapt in England but then he's on 22 or 23....still plenty of time for him to prove his worth. Maybe it would be better if Gonzalez is loaned out to other Premier League clubs instead of selling him off.

I might have to agree with that. He actually has lots of potential but probably Benitez has no time to wait for him to get adapted to the game due to constant pressure from fans to win the Premiership.

I agree that in order to remain in any Premiership team, a player needs to adapt quickly but as we all know, not all players have that ability. Furthermore, a season-long loan deal would ensure Gonzalez gets the first team experience he badly needed, thus creating an additional option for Benitez after Gonzalez returned from the loan period.

Anyway, thanks for your comment...

Could be, but I think it has more to do with his style of playing. Could be?

I wouldn't say its too much of his playing style....maybe its because of the different tempo and environment.

I also agree to a piont that Mark would progress further as time goes on and also adapt better to the english style of play in time. But considering the pressure that is mounted on Liverpool to be major title contenders this season and already having 8 forward players fighting for four postions, i honestly dont see the benefit for him to get loan out at the age of 23 and the liverpool new young rare exciting talents like Torees and Babel which have many years to become great players with a better squad around them, not saying ajax and aletico dont have good players but come on what squad other than milan been to two chapionshiop finals in two years and have a team mentality that is hard to come by. So Rafa had to let him go maybe because of a new attacking style of play were forwards like kewell, babel, yossi and a much better pennant which would be hard to challenge for a good player. life for Mark G at liverpool wouldn't exactly be a right place to go with the manager obvioulsy over strengening his position. I think it wasn't a personal decision but more of a clear business and tactical decison. And giving Mark what he deserves to get regular first team football were at Liverpool that obvouisly isn't the case exept for the exceptional world class players that I dont need say. Also, returing to Spain were his stlye of play exceled much more Rafa knows what needs to be done to get what we wants and the player desires to play regular and gain as much experience as possible,
Rafa is a great manger so supoort his descions because only a couple managers in the world have the tatical knowledge and a visoon for talent like rafa does. Anyway good look to Mark you always gave 100 percent
