Liverpool is closing in on the signing of Celta Vigo striker Iago Aspas and could snap him up for just €7m this summer, according to the Mirror.
The 25-year-old forward has enjoyed a productive campaign in Spain – scoring 11 goals and providing 6 assists – but his efforts have been unable to prevent Celta Vigo from sinking to the foot of the La Liga table. Defeat this weekend away at Valladolid could see Celta’s relegation confirmed, which will be good news for Liverpool.
The Mirror claim Aspas – who has been linked with Chelsea, Swansea and Reading in recent months – has a €10m release clause written into his contract but that figure will fall to €7 if Celta drop out of the top flight.
The newspaper suggests Liverpool are set to take advantage of his decreased buy out clause with Brendan Rodgers understood to be in talks with the player over a move to the Premier League and has offered him £45,000-a-week to move to Anfield.
Aspas is a pacey attacker who’s capable of playing anywhere across the front-line so his versatility would be a useful asset to Rodgers as the Northern Irishman looks to add to his attacking options ahead of next season.
