Malaga Want Liverpool To Pay More For Isco

Liverpool has been dealt a blow in their chase for Spain starlet Isco. Interest in him has been increasing after his impressive start to the season and Malaga are keen to discuss a new contract in response to him being linked with a move to Anfield, according to Mundo Deportivo.

Liverpool was reportedly leading the race to sign him, but Manchester City has since been credited with an interest and Malaga has, according to the report, responded by attempting to agree a new contract with the 20-year-old in order to increase his value.

Isco’s current deal reportedly includes a buy-out clause worth €21million and Malaga has made it a priority to renegotiate the deal before January, so that interest from Brendan Rodgers can be converted into a more lucrative deal.

Liverpool’s interest could be to do with the striking problems they’ve been having in the early stages of the season, as Isco would provide greater creativity in and around the area. Isco’s improvement could have a lot to do with Santo Cazorla’s move to Arsenal, which has allowed the youngster more playing time and a more prominent role in the side.

Marseille Midfielder Recalls Liverpool 'Nightmare'

Joey Barton has admitted that Liverpool's thrilling comeback victory against AC Milan in the 2005 Champions League final, was a real life "nightmare".

The 30-year-old midfielder, currently on loan with Ligue 1 giants Marseille from Queens Park Rangers, recently explained in an interview with his parent club's official website.

Les Phoceens fans have been keen to find out all they can about their newly inherited player, asking him a series of questions, including the best match he has ever seen.

"The best I've seen? The fans say Munich. It is hard to choose just one," said Barton, referring to the 1993 Champions League final, between Marseille and AC Milan, which his current employers won 1-0. "I love football and I watch a lot of it.

"The fans love to see goals, but I could pick other games because I like to watch tackling and the defence."

Liverpool Striker Following The Lead Of Owen & Torres

Liverpool teenager Samed Yesil has continued his sensational run of scoring form for his country with the striker netting his 30th and 31st strikes at youth level for Germany.

The 18-year-old has taken only 32 matches to net 31 goals - a better record than former Liverpool star Fernando Torres had during his time playing in the Spain youth ranks.

Torres scored 22 times in 30 matches for Spain at youth level before progressing to the senior football, and Yesil would do well to reach the heights of the ex-Anfield hero.

Although Yesil can boast to have been more potent in his teens that Torres, the German will have to go some way before he is able to beat another former Liverpool striker.

Michael Owen scored 41 goals in 38 appearances in the England youth system - and carried this form into the Liverpool first-team while still a teenager, while he also made his full international debut at 18 years and 59 days.

The arrival of another Owen at Anfield is a prospect to excite Liverpool supporters and, should Yesil keep up his form, he could be provided with an opportunity to prove his worth this season, given the lack of first-team strikers.

Liverpool look particularly light in the goalscoring department, and Brendan Rodgers has already shown he is willing to trust in youth given the promotions of Raheem Sterling and Suso this season.

Suarez Hits Back At Fifa's Jim Boyce

Liverpool striker Luis Suarez has said Fifa Vice-President Jim Boyce just "wanted to get publicity" with his remarks about the Uruguayan.

Boyce said an incident involving Suarez in the Reds' game against Stoke was "nothing less than cheating" and called simulation a "cancer" in the game.

But Suarez has said: "This guy [Boyce], I've no idea who he is.

"I don't know why he has been talking about me. He certainly can't be well-known and he wants to get publicity."

The 25-year-old who played for his country in Friday night's 3-0 World Cup qualifying defeat by Argentina, went on to tell Argentine radio: "Let him carry on talking. My job is to play football and to try to do so in the best way possible.

"What he has said does not affect me. I am not interested in what he has to say. It's been important to have the support of the Uruguayan FA and the people.

"I have lived through a lot in the past year, with people saying things about me, but I have continued playing and proving my job is what happens on the pitch."

Boyce's remarks prompted the Uruguayan Football Association (AUF) to write to Fifa defending their player and demanding that the 68-year-old Northern Irishman, who is Britain's representative on Fifa, be referred to the governing body's ethics committee.

The letter, signed by the organization’s president Sebastian Bauza and general secretary Anibal de Olivera, described Boyce's remarks as "at odds with the principles of world football governing".

It continued: "The code of ethics of Fifa, in its article three, clearly states: 'Officers should be aware of the importance of their role and the obligations and responsibilities that entails.'

"Deliberately ignoring his position and role, Mr. Boyce has referred specifically to a football player, encouraging and provoking hostility towards him."

The letter also included a list of six steps the AUF wants Fifa to take, including withdrawing its confidence in Boyce and expressing its regret to Suarez.

Liverpool Keen On Hooper

Gary Hooper’s contract talks with Celtic have broken down, leaving the door open for Liverpool to sign the striker.

The Reds have only one recognizable striker fit, after Fabio Borini’s foot injury whilst on international duty with Italy, and believe the 24-year-old could solve their striker problems.

Hooper, who joined the Bhoys from Scunthorpe in 2010, has been in fine form for Neil Lennon’s men, with many believing his goalscoring exploits in the Champions League should have lead to an England call-up.

But contract talks with the Celtic Park side have stalled, and Liverpool are now eyeing a January transfer move for the former Southend United star.

talkSPORT understands Hooper is upset that numerous promises have been broken by the club regarding the new contract.

Ilicic Coy On Liverpool Link

Palermo attacking midfielder Josip Ilicic has remained coy on his future amid suggestions that Liverpool is monitoring him.

It has been reported that the Premier League club sent scouts to watch him during the Sicilian club's Serie A games against Genoatwo weekends ago.

The scouts are also said to have kept an eye on Genoa defender Andreas Granqvist at the Marassi, but Ilicic brushes aside any potential move for him to Liverpool as of now.

"New rumours about my future? Nothing new, everything is quiet on this front," the 24-year-old told Sport Press. "But it is normal for me that there are rumours. One day you are linked with one club, another day with another club.

"That is normal, but I am still at Palermo. I am only thinking about my team. The summer is well over and the transfer window reopens in January, which is far away.

"Now I am a Palermo player, I don't know what will happen in the future. We will see."

Liverpool Deny Approach For Italian Striker

Liverpool has denied they approached Alessandro Del Piero about a proposed move to Anfield, after the Juventus legend claimed he rejected the Reds in order to respect those who died in the Heysel disaster.

Del Piero became a free agent at the end of last season following 20 years as a Juventus player and ended up leaving Italy for pastures new by joining Sydney FC, but said he had attracted interest from Liverpool.

The 37-year-old said he considered the offer from Liverpool but decided against a switch to Anfield as the feelings among some Juventus fans with regards to Heysel remain so raw.

"Why I said no to Liverpool? Negotiations with Sydney were already advanced and then I thought about what happened at Heysel," Del Piero told Gazetta dello Sport, in reference to the incident which saw 39 Juventus fans lose their lives.

"Juve and Liverpool were able to rebuild the relationship, but for many people that tragedy is an indelible memory. I thank all the clubs which wanted me, but I'm convinced of my choice."

Liverpool, however, has since responded to the veteran striker's comments and insists no contact was made as Brendan Rodgers scoured the market for goalscoring reinforcements.

"No attempt was made to sign Alessandro Del Piero," a club spokesperson told the Daily Mail.

"Nobody at Liverpool spoke to the player or his representatives at any stage about the possibility of him joining the club."

The recruitment of another striker remains a priority for Liverpool in the January transfer window, and the Reds will be even lighter in that department between now and the New Year after an injury to Fabio Borini.

The Liverpool forward sustained a broken foot in training with the Italy under-21s and could be sidelined for three months of the season.

Liverpool In Striker Crisis As Borini Fractures Foot

The worst start to a Premier League season for Liverpool has been compounded by the injury of summer signing Fabio Borin leaving them with just Luis Suarez as their only recognized striker.

The injury occurred as Borini was training in preparation for Italy's Euro 2013 under 21 play off with Sweden in Pescera hen he suffered the injury to his scafoide bone and taken to hospital for X-rays.

At present there is no news on how long Borini will be sidelined for however it is thought that it is more likely to take months rather weeks for the Italian to return to first team action which will leave the Merseysider's very short of attacking options.

This may not be as bad a blow as it appears as Borini's start to life at Liverpool has not bee one to write home about as he current has a pass completion rate of 76%, which is the worst in Liverpool's outfield squad and if having just about as many shots as Stewart Downing did at this point last season.

However, even if Borini's impact has been minimal his injury will cast more pressure on striker Luis Suarez to perform well and score goals, should he pick up an injury it would leave Liverpool in real trouble.

Shelvey Savours Senior Debut

Jonjo Shelvey is bracing himself for a return to England's U21 squad but is desperate to taste more of the big time after making his senior debut against San Marino.

The Liverpool midfielder was set to feature in Friday's U21 European Championship play-off first leg against Serbia but his suspension, along with injury to Frank Lampard for the seniors, meant a call-up to Roy Hodgson's squad instead.

He impressed off the bench as England eased to a 5-0 win in their World Cup qualifier but may have to wait for a second chance.

The 20-year-old is available for the youngsters' return match in Krusevac on Tuesday but Steven Gerrard is one of several experienced players set to return for the senior team's crunch trip to Poland on the same night.

"I don't know what's happening now; whether I'm going to be going back to the U21s or staying," Shelvey said.

"Hopefully, (Hodgson's) got me in his plans for future call-ups.

"I started the week a little bit nervously, not in a training sense but in and around the hotel. But, as the week went on, I got more and more confident.

"My dad's always said that hopefully one day I'll play for England and it's come true now. It's what dreams are made of."

Lucas Won't Rush Reds Return

Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva has vowed not to rush his return to action from his latest injury.

Lucas is currently recovering from a thigh injury he picked up in the second game of the season against Manchester City after spending most of last season on the sidelines with a serious knee injury.

The Brazil international is not expected to return to action until November at the earliest and Lucas insists he will only return to action when he feels he is ready.

"It's been the worst experience of my career because I've never had experience of injuries," Lucas told the club's official website. "The knee injury was bad because it's a long-term injury and I had to recover for seven, eight months. But this one has been worse, because I'd got so close. I was feeling well, feeling fit. To have to wait again and start another rehab, it's been very difficult.

"I've just got to try and be positive. There is nothing I can do, just try to get right again and not rush, be with the family and try to be strong.

"It's important not to rush, to get back when I really feel able to play 100 per cent."

Pacheco Eyes Liverpool Success

Spanish winger Daniel Pacheco is determined to prove himself at Liverpool this season.

Pacheco has been on the books of Liverpool since 2009, but has failed to secure a regular starting berth, playing on loan for Norwich City and Rayo Vallecano over the past one and a half years.

Pacheco has made just two competitive appearances under Brendan Rodgers this campaign, and is keen to impress his manager as the season progresses.

"I am trying to work very hard to get into the team," the 21-year-old told Liverpool's official website.

"I've played a few games and I think I did quite well, so hopefully by working every day and playing in games with the U21s, I can get back into the team and play a few more games.

"I hope this is a new opportunity for me. I want to try my best. We have already seen he is giving a chance to the youngsters, so hopefully I will get one in the next few games.

"I think every season is a crucial season for everyone, but maybe because I haven't played that many games in the last seasons, maybe this is the one I can break into the first team - and I'll try my best to try and make that happen."

Pacheco also revealed how he could have been sent on loan to a Spanish club in the summer.

"We've spoken about my situation," he said. "In the summer, I was supposed to go on loan to Spain but it didn't happen.

"I went to talk to him [Rodgers] and he was very honest with me. He said he would treat me as a professional and an adult. He has given me the chance to try and impress him - so now it is my job to try to do my best.

"His style is definitely a style that suits me. It's the way we like to play in Spain and I've been playing all of my life. We have shown already we are playing good football and I am sure the results will come."

Liverpool Welcome 'Massive' IPCC Investigation

Liverpool has welcomed the announcement of "massive" investigations into the Hillsborough disaster as a significant step in the campaign for justice for the families and survivors.

The new investigation will study possible crimes committed by South Yorkshire police officers and others in relation to the disaster.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission and Director of Public Prosecutions announced on Friday that they will study evidence relating to how the 96 fans died and decide if there should be any charges of manslaughter, perjury or perverting the course of justice.

The IPCC and DPP will also look into whether there was a cover-up by the police officers who investigated the handling of the Hillsborough tragedy.

Officers will also be investigated to see whether they perverted the course of justice by providing incorrect information to journalists, which led to incorrect newspaper stories about Liverpool fans during the tragic events of April 15, 1989.

"We welcome recent announcement by the Independent Police Complaints Commission and Director of Public Prosecutions," said Ian Ayre, Liverpool's managing director on their official website.

"This is another significant step forward in the campaign for justice for Hillsborough families and survivors.

"We will follow the progress of this investigation and remain resolute in our support of the families and survivors as they continue with their battle to bring those responsible for the tragedy to justice."

Suarez Unflustered By Diving Fiasco

Liverpool’s Luis Suarez is not concerned with the escalating diving argument stemming from his dive against Stoke City last weekend.

The Uruguayan was accused of simulation after appearing to hit the ground unchallenged during Liverpool’s 0-0 draw with Stoke, leading to Tony Pulis calling for the FA to hand down bans to the Premier League’s divers. FIFA vice president Jim Boyce recently weighed in on the argument, and labelled the act of diving in order to hand their team an advantage a “cancer” on the game.

Suarez, who is away on international duty preparing for World Cup qualifiers against Argentina and Bolivia, appears unperturbed by the vilification he is facing, and instead is focused on his own performances for club and country.

"Everyone should focus on their own team," Suarez told Uruguayan publication Ovacion, ESPN report. "Those who want to talk can do so, I am not worried about what they say.

"They can keep talking and in the meantime I will keep on playing football and taking care of my team and what I do. Nothing else matters."

Suarez also expressed his gratitude towards his club manager, Brendan Rodgers. Rodgers reacted angrily to criticism from Stoke manager Pulis, and called for greater perspective on the incident, when it became apparent that Suarez was victim of a vicious stamp to the chest by Stoke defender Robert Huth in the same game.

"The support of the coach is very important to me and that's what I really care about,” Suarez added.

Ayre: Luis Suarez Is Targeted By Referees

Liverpool managing director Ian Ayre feels Luis Suarez is a 'target' for criticism this season and does not believe the Uruguayan is under pressure to change his style, following consistent allegations of diving.

Suarez was accused of attempting to con the referee in the weekend draw with Stoke at Anfield, and Potters boss Tony Pulis called for the Liverpool star to be banned retrospectively for his antics.

The actions of Suarez have seen the issue of diving emerge from the shadows once again, with Tottenham's Gareth Bale also implicated alongside the Liverpool star.

Former Liverpool striker Michael Owen has also since admitted to deliberately going down in the box during his time as an England international, although was clear to state that he only did so when feeling contact from the opposition.

Ayre, meanwhile, does not believe Suarez is being fairly treated by officials or by fellow players this season, with the 25-year-old having had clear appeals for penalties rejected at times this term.

"I am not surprised by the reaction because we all feel he is a bit of target," Ayre told Sky Sports News.

"If you look from the start of this season or perhaps the end of last season through to last weekend I think it is fair to say Luis hasn't had the luck of the draw really in terms of decisions.

"It was proven on your channel and others that on many occasions that he was denied what he should have been given.

"I just feel his style of play, the way he kind of nips in and out he's just a target for tackles and defenders if you like.

"What I would say he has not had the rub of the green in terms of decisions but hopefully that changes as the season goes on.

"The most important thing is it doesn't affect Luis, he just turns it on each week and puts himself out there and he will keep going and that is what we need from him."

Brendan Rodgers Consider January Bid For Burak Yilmaz

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is considering a January bid for Turkish striker Burak Yilmaz, according to talkSPORT.

The Galatasaray forward was reportedly a target for West Ham and Tottenham while playing for Trabzonspor last season, but instead opted to stay in Turkey with Galatasaray.

The 27-year-old hit 33 goals for Trabzonspor last year, and already has five goals in his first six league appearances this campaign.

Yilmaz is valued at £13m, and could represent good value for a Liverpool side keen to add an out-and-out poacher to its squad.

Brendan Rodgers offloaded Andy Carroll at the end of the summer transfer window, and failed to secure a replacement, leaving the Reds with Luis Suarez and Fabio Borini as their only recognized senior strikers.

Liverpool have been linked with a number of targets, including Athletic Bilbao hitman Fernando Llorente and Crystal Palace starlet Wilfried Zaha, but talkSPORT reports a bid for Yilmaz could be on the cards.

The Turkey international has played for all four of the big clubs in his homeland, including Besiktas, Fenerbahce, Trabzonspor and most recently Galatasaray.

But Yilmaz was never considered prolific before his 2010 move to Trabzonspor. Since then, however, the Turkish star can't stop scoring, and could be a good bet to lead the Liverpool attack.

Liverpool Chase Andreas Granqvist

Liverpool will reportedly switch to Genoa's Andreas Granqvist in their pursuit of January transfer window reinforcements after deeming Torino defender Angelo Ogbonna too expensive.

Representatives from Liverpool were reported to be in attendance for Genoa's draw with Palermo last weekend in order to take a closer look at Granqvist, who has made 24 appearances for Sweden.

According to Football Italia, Liverpool are now ready to sanction a €6 million bid in the hope concluding a transfer for Granqvist in the New Year as Brendan Rodgers looks to bolster his Anfield squad.

Liverpool's interest in the 27-year-old, it is claimed, has been prompted by the price tag placed on Italy international Ogbonna, with Torino requesting the Reds pay €15 million to sign the centre-back.

Ogbonna has impressed with his commanding displays this season and earned a call-up to Italy's squad for next week's World Cup qualifiers, although was forced to withdraw due to an swollen prostate.

Liverpool though, it would appear, have identified a cheaper alternative to Ogbonna in Granqvist, and the Sweden international will battle with the likes Daniel Agger and Martin Skrtel for a starting place at Anfield.

Liverpool Look To Hamburg Youngster To Solve Striker Problems

Liverpool have earmarked Hamburg's South Korean striker Son Heung-Min to beef up their attacking options which are incredibly limited.

The 20 year old has been in great form for the German side and although he is currently playing as a striker, his pace and mobility mean he can also play on either wing. As good as his variety of positions are it may leave Liverpool fans worried that this is not the goalscoring answer that they are currently crying out for.

Boss, Brendan Rodger's has already brought in Fabio Borini in the summer for £10 million but he is yet to open his account in the Premier League and after the loan sale of Andy Carroll to West Ham its has left the Reds with insufficient fire power to get there season really started.

However Hamburg are wanting to extended the strikers contract due to his great start to the season as football director Frank Arnesen told ESPN, "We absolutely want to extend his contract."

Son arrived at Hamburg's youth academy as part of an exchange program in 2008 and has played in 47 league matches for the club, scoring 12 times.

Spanish Starlet Ready To Sign New Liverpool deal

Liverpool starlet Suso has told fans of the Anfield club not to worry, as he will be signing a new deal soon.

The Spain Under-19 international has broken into Brendan Rodgers’ first team in recent weeks and has been putting in some very good performances for the Reds.

This improvement has brought some concern that Liverpool could lose one of their most promising young stars, as his contract expires next season, according to talkSPORT.

It now appears those Liverpool fans that feared his exit need to no longer, as the 18-year-old told Spanish radio that he fully intends to extend his current deal and stay on Merseyside.

“Liverpool is the ideal club for me, I'll sign a new deal soon and be here for a long time,” he told Onda Cero.

“The fans can relax, it'll be done as soon as possible.”

Despite troubles on the pitch, Liverpool has had a good summer in terms of renewing contracts of key players.

Key central defender Daniel Agger agreed new terms at the end of last week and top scorer Luis Suarez also signed an extension earlier in the summer.

Suso’s comments will likely please Brendan Rodgers, as he has shown a willingness to give youth a chance since becoming manager – Raheem Sterling and Andre Wisdom are two more academy players that have been given a chance.

Rodgers Offers Reina Support

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has offered his support to goalkeeper Pepe Reina to recapture his best form.

Reina has endured a mixed season to date with a number of uncharacteristic mistakes in the games against Hearts, Arsenal and Norwich this term.

Rodgers is not concerned about Reina's form and says he has been impressed by the Spaniard since his arrival at Anfield.

"I can't speak highly enough of Pepe," Rodgers told the LiverpoolEcho. "He's a keeper who has really impressed me. He's a good guy who comes in and works hard every day.

"Like all the other players here he's trying to improve and become a better player.

"Pepe has been here for a number of years and has proved himself over a long period of time.

"He's obviously adapting to a new style but this is a way of working which is perfect for Pepe.

"He came through the Barcelona model so he understands this way of playing and what I'm trying to do perfectly.

"He's working very hard to get in the best possible moment in his game.

"As a team, we just need to cut out the kind of mistakes we've been making. If we do that then everyone will benefit from that, including Pepe."

Flanagan To Prove His Worth

Liverpool right-back Jon Flanagan has vowed to prove his worth to Brendan Rodgers when he recovers from the injury that has left him a frustrated spectator this season.

Flanagan is back in light training after picking up an ankle injury in pre-season and hopes to be fit to boost Rodgers' options soon.

He told the club's official website: "I picked up a slight injury during the U21s game at Crystal Palace when I damaged the ligaments in my ankle, but it's recovering well and I'm back out on the pitch jogging again so I hope to be back soon.

"It's been very frustrating. We've had a few injuries in the full-back position and Andre Wisdom has come in and done great at right-back, so I just want to get back fully fit now.

"I haven't had too many injuries to be honest but at the end of last season I had a slight problem with my knee. Hopefully the injuries are all in the past now.

"The manager has been great and given the young lads a chance in the first team, so when I get fit I've just got to show him what I can do and hopefully get a chance."

Pearce Excited By Sterling Form

England Under-21 boss Stuart Pearce says Liverpool winger Raheem Sterling has looked "outstanding" in training as his side prepare for their European Championship play-off against Serbia.

The two teams meet in Friday's first leg in Norwich before Tuesday's return fixture in Krusevac.

"Raheem's been very good. Outstanding," said Pearce.

"He's brought his club form with him. He's looked very, very good. His tail is up and he looks a real handful."

England will secure a place at Euro 2013 in Israel with victory over two legs.

Sterling, 17, will win his first Under-21 cap if he plays against Serbia, having previously featured at Under-16, 17 and 19 level.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has used the midfielder 10 times already this season and he won a call-up to Roy Hodgson's senior squad for last month's World Cup qualifiers against Moldova and Ukraine.

"He's had a fantastic start to the season. He's been in our development age groups and he had the opportunity to be with the seniors," added Pearce.

"He's fitted in really well. The confidence Brendan has given him he has brought with him here."

Sterling's Anfield team-mate Andre Wisdom will not be available after returning to his club with a shoulder injury.

Robinson Gets U21 Call-Up

Promising Liverpool left-back Jack Robinson has been called into the England U21 squad for their upcoming Euro 2013 play-off against Serbia.

The first leg will take place this Friday at Carrow Road and the second leg will be in Serbia next Tuesday.

Stuart Pearce drafted Robinson into his squad after on-loan Nottingham Forest midfielder Henri Lansbury and Southampton defender Nathaniel Clyne were ruled out of both games due to injury.

The squad now contains four Liverpool youngsters, with Robinson joining Jordan Henderson, Raheem Sterling and Andre Wisdom in the camp.

Robinson, 19, has previously represented England at U16, U17, U18 and U19 level, and he became the youngest player to make a first team appearance for Liverpool when he made his debut at the age of 16 in May 2010.

This season, he has featured in the Liverpool squad for their Europa League matches, and started last week's 3-2 loss at home to Udinese, earning praise for his display despite the defeat.

Pearce is looking forward to taking his side to Carrow Road as they look to secure a place in next summer's finals in Israel.

They beat Romania 2-1 on their last visit to the ground two seasons ago which helped take them to the 2011 European Championships finals in Denmark.

"This play-off has been pencilled in for Norwich for a long while, simply because of how we have always been welcomed by the club and the fans in this neck of the woods," said Pearce.

"It's a passionate area for football, they love their team and they also love England, so always give us great support at Carrow Road.

"This is somewhere the Under-21s have always enjoyed playing and I am delighted we're going back."

The good news for Jose Enrique is that his manager may not be getting ready to shove him out the door any more. The bad news is that he won't be able to even begin training again for at least seven to ten more days.

As if being called out by his new manager wasn't bad enough for Jose Enrique, the Liverpool left back who has found himself out of favour while struggling to return from a persistent knee injury faces at least another week on the trainer's table before he even has the chance to return to action.

"Hopefully within the next week to 10 days he'll be back out on the training field," was Brendan Rodgers' take on Enrique's situation before adding that he hoped there would be no negative reaction to the current treatment regimen that could see the Spaniard out for even longer.

"He hasn't been [available for selection] the last couple of weeks. It's unfortunate—he's got a pain in his knee that he was struggling with. We've been trying to treat it conservatively."

There's still a chance that on that timeline he could be available to face Reading following the international break, but with much of the squad either away with their national teams or working of further implementing Rodgers' system, every day that Enrique misses is another chance to fall further behind in the eyes of his manager.

About the only good news for the fullback might be that while discussing his situation, Rodgers took the chance to paint the player in a rather more flattering light than when he talked about Enrique being a potential January departure alongside the under-performing Stewart Downing at the end of September.

"He's a terrific player," said Rodgers, in what represents a softening of his tone when it comes to the fit and out of form fullback, "and he has got great qualities. We hope we can get him back sooner rather than later."

Coleman: Allen Born For Liverpool

Chris Coleman has paid tribute to Liverpool midfielder Joe Allen after he was named Player of the Year by the Football Association of Wales.

Allen picked up the Player of the Year and Club Player of the Year awards on Monday night after an impressive 12 months.

As well as performing well for his country, the 22-year-old starred for Swansea City in the Premier League last season to earn a £15million summer switch to Liverpool.

National team manager Coleman has not been surprised by Allen's progress, while he has also praised the player's attitude.

"The last 12 months have been incredible for Joe. He was born to play for a club like Liverpool and excel," said Coleman.

"He's a great character, very humble and never gets carried away."

Ajax Starlet Welcomes Liverpool Interest

Liverpool are eyeing up a move for Ajax starlet Christian Eriksen as a long-term replacement for Steven Gerrard, according to reports in Denmark.

Eriksen has attracted interest from some of Europe’s leading clubs since being named Dutch young player of the year for the 2010/11 season.

Manchester United were said to be courting the talented youngster after his two displays against the Red Devils in the Europa League last season.

The Danish international’s sterling performances at Euro 2012 further enhanced his reputation, and while there were rumours of a move to either Manchester United or Barcelona over the summer, Eriksen himself insisted he was staying put until the end of the 2012/13 season.

Now it appears as though Liverpool have earmarked Eriksen as the man to replace Steven Gerrard when he eventually retires from the game.

Sporten.dk reports that Liverpool have stepped up their interest in taking Eriksen to Anfield this week, while the player himself admits he is flattered by news of the Merseyside club’s interest.

“It's very cool that the focus is from one of the big clubs (Liverpool). It's very special, but I have not really thought about a club transfer in any way,” he told tipsbladet.dk

Eriksen also confirmed once more that he is likely to leave Ajax at the end of the season, but would not be drawn on the rumoured interest from Liverpool as well as Manchester United.

He said: “We do not know yet. It really depends on the season and how it all looks like summer”

Eriksen’s contract expires in 2014 while Steven Gerrard’s deal with Liverpool is believed to expire in 2015, although recently the Liverpool skipper intimated that he could sign a contract extension that will keep him in a red shirt well into his mid-thirties.

Last month Liverpool was linked with a move for Malaga’s Isco as well as Ander Herrera as a replacement for Gerrard.

Manchester United’s midfield woes are well documented, and it was reported over the summer by the Daily Mail that Eriksen had asked for a £20 million summer switch to Old Trafford.

Liverpool Scout Slovenian Midfielder

Liverpool is considering a January move for Palermo midfielder and reported Tottenham target Josip Ilicic, according to Calcio Mercato.

The 24-year-old Slovenian international has been one of the Serie A side's stand-out performers so far this season, attracting attention from a number of clubs, not just in the Premier League.

It was reported that Reds boss Brendan Rodgers had sent Anfield scouts to the Stadio Luigi Ferraris for Saturday night's clash between Genoa and Palermo, to run the rule over Swedish defender Andreas Granqvist.

However, speculation now suggests Liverpool were in fact taking a closer look at Ilicic, with a view to bringing him to Merseyside when the transfer window reopens in the New Year.

Local rivals, Everton, are long-term admirers of the player, and according to Calcio Mercato, Spurs have also been monitoring Ilicic. Their interest stems back before the days of Andre Villas-Boas, so whether or not Liverpool will face competition from White Hart Lane, remains to be seen.

Ilicic joined Palermo from Maribor in a €2.3million deal in 2010, and after an impressive debut season in Italy signed a five-year contract extension last summer.

It's not yet clear how much the Rosanero would demand for the attacking midfielder, but one thing's for certain, they will be under no pressure to sell with four years still to run on his deal.

Liverpool Lead Race For £10m Winger

Liverpool and Manchester City lead the chase for Crystal Palace winger, and reported Arsenal target Wilfried Zaha, according to Goal.com.

The England U21 international has attracted widespread interest from a number of Premier League suitors, after a series of scintillating performances in the Npower Championship.

It was reported that Gunners boss Arsene Wenger sent former assistant manager Pat Rice to run the rule over Zaha in Palace's 4-3 win over Burnley at the weekend, with the 19-year-old winger netting twice in front of the Emirates Stadium representative.

However, Goal.com understands that Arsenal are considered outsiders in the race to capture one of the hottest properties in the lower leagues, with long-term admirers Liverpool at the front of the queue.

Reds boss Brendan Rodgers is desperate for more wide options at Anfield following the sales of Craig Bellamy, Dirk Kuyt and Maxi Rodriguez last summer, and Zaha's ability to play on either wing, or through the middle, makes him an attractive proposition.

The Ivorian-born star signed a new five-and-a-half year contract last December, tying him to the Selhurst Park club until 2017. But, the Eagles have indicated they could cash-in on their prized asset - either in January or next summer - with bidding set to start at around £10million.

Reigning champions Manchester City have also shown an interest in the Football League's 2011/12 Young Player of the Year, with Roberto Mancini continuing to monitor Zaha's situation, with a view to making a rival bid to lure him to the Etihad Stadium.

Liverpool Defender Target Discusses Move

Reported Liverpool transfer target Angelo Ogbonna says he is flattered with news of interest from the Reds and has hinted he would be open to a move to Merseyside in the future.

The 24-year-old central defender continues to impress with a number of commanding displays in Serie A, and had been in Italy's squad for their World Cup 2014 double-header before withdrawing.

Liverpool have reportedly been monitoring Ogbonna as Brendan Rodgers makes plans to bring reinforcements to Anfield during the January transfer window, and defence could be a department the Reds boss may be tempted to bolster.

Ogbonna would certainly do just that, and admits that the idea of a transfer to Liverpool is one that he would find appealing - but is not prepared to get ahead of himself at this present time.

"It is flattering to be linked with Liverpool football club, one of the biggest clubs in the world. It's very famous," he told Sky Sports.

"However, my contract with Torino expires in 2016 and I like Torino as a club. But you never know."

Should he move to Liverpool, Ogbonna would compete with Martin Skrtel and Daniel Agger for a starting berth in central defence, but may find it hard to budge the impressive pairing.

Liverpool Set Sights On French International Defender

Liverpool are being linked with a move for highly-rated French international defender Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, according to reports.

Italian publication La Stampa claims Reds boss Brendan Rodgers is eager to add the 23-year-old to the ranks at Anfield, with an expiring contract appearing to work in the favour of interested parties.

Yanga-Mbiwa’s current deal with Montpellier expires in the summer of 2013. That means he’d be able discuss terms over a potential free transfer in January, whilst the Ligue 1 champions may be forced to sell the player if they want to receive any money for the skipper.

Serie ‘A’ giants AC Milan are also being linked with a move for the player by the paper, whilst Yanga-Mbiwa spoke specifically on interest from Barcelona earlier in the week.

Were the three-cap international to move to Liverpool, he’d be joining Martin Skrtel, Jamie Carragher, Sebastian Coates and Daniel Agger in fighting for a starting spot at the heart of the club’s defence.

And, given the way that the club has been exposed at the back on a couple of occasions this season, it’s no surprise to see Rodgers linked with a move for a centre back.

Genoa star Andreas Granqvist has also been linked with a move to Liverpool, suggesting that movement could be made as soon as the New Year arrives.

Liverpool Star Scoops Top Award

Liverpool midfielder Joe Allen has been named the Welsh Footballer of the Year for 2012 after a year in which he flourished at Swansea and earned a move to Merseyside.

Allen was one of the star perfumers for the Swans last season as they entertained and excelled during their first season in the Premier League under the stewardship of Brendan Rodgers.

After Rodgers was appointed successor to Kenny Dalglish as manager of Liverpool, Allen soon followed his former manager to Anfield and signed for the Reds for £15 million.

The fee paid by Liverpool was a record for a Welsh player, and the 22-year-old joins a number of famous players from his country to have donned the famous Red of the club.

Allen has impressed since becoming a Liverpool player, even if the results during Rodgers' brief tenure have not been up to scratch so far.

Allen beat the likes of Swansea captain Ashley Williams and Tottenham star Gareth Bale to claim the Welsh award on this occasion, with the former having collected the going on in the previous two years.

The Liverpool star polled the most votes from journalists and broadcasters, who analyzed the 12 months from October 2011 onwards, and Allen won out over some illustrious rivals.

Morgan Seals U21s Win At 'Boro

Adam Morgan netted a superb winner as Liverpool U21s maintained their unbeaten start to the season with a 1-0 win at Middlesbrough on Monday night.

The Academy hot-shot fired the only goal of the game on the stroke of half-time when he latched onto a delightful back-heel from Dani Pacheco, rounded the goalkeeper and finished, showing great composure in the process.

Rodolfo Borrell's side played some sparkling football in the first half and could have scored a lot more goals but for some fine goalkeeping from 'Boro stopper Connor Ripley.

Soccer Prince Arrives At Academy

Emin Altunay arrived at the Liverpool Academy in Kirkby last week determined to take full advantage of a 'dream come true' after he beat competition from thousands of young footballers to become Turkey's first Soccer Prince.

His prize for winning the hit reality TV show is a 12-month development program in the UK under the guidance and direction of LFC and the aim is simple; to develop Emin to the highest level that he can achieve.

The Turkish show was an epic 51-episode series covering 15 cities the length and breadth of the country, culminating in the final in Istanbul at the end of May 2012.

Liverpool, of course, are no strangers to the Turkish capital and courtesy of the Soccer Prince show, the Reds' brand has now reached some of the most remote parts of the country.

Emin, from a small town called Hatay in Southern Turkey, close to the Syrian border, explained he felt after winning the competition: "I've been playing football since I was four years old. I've always wanted to play football and I want to thank everyone who has given me this opportunity.

"I am so lucky to be given the chance to be developed by such a famous club and I won't let them down."

Former Reds star Kevin Keegan was in Istanbul to officially crown Emin as the first Turkish Soccer Prince and other legends such as club ambassador Ian Rush, John Barnes, Dean Saunders, Didi Hamann and Gordon Milne also appeared on the show.

Keegan clearly enjoyed his time at the finale in Istanbul saying: "What this show has done for so many young people in Turkey is incredible.

"It has got young people playing the game and has changed the lives of these finalists who will never forget their experience. It was a pleasure to be involved."
