Jol Mocks Liverpool Director

Martin Jol has suggested he could have ushered in an era of success at Tottenham had it not been for the interference of Damien Comolli.

Dutchman Jol had three years in charge of Spurs, only to be axed in 2007. He led the club to back-to-back European campaigns, and missed out on Champions League qualification on the final day of the 2005-2006 season, but was shown the door in October - following a sizeable summer spending spree. It has been suggested that Jol was overruled on transfers and it would appear the wound is still a little sore.

"When I first came to England, I said to Daniel [Levy] 'If you leave me alone to work for you, the people will mob you in the streets like you're the king'. But he never did that," Jol, who was speaking at his first press conference since taking charge of Fulham, said.

Jol claims his relationship with chairman Daniel Levy was good, but has suggested his position was undermined by now Liverpool director of football Comolli.

He said: "The problem was that Damien Comolli was responsible for most of the football things.

"I took Gareth Bale and Aaron Lennon to Tottenham. Comolli took Benoit Assou-Ekotto, for example. But there are no hard feelings for me. I like Daniel."

Jol was not out of management for long, taking charge of Hamburg, and he has put the boot into Tottenham by insisting the Germans are a bigger club than Spurs.

"I won't lie, I didn't feel great when they sacked me," Jol said. "But then I went to Hamburg, where they have 55,000 season ticket holders and we were playing in European semi-finals. So that was an even bigger club."

Liverpool's Young Duo Making A Big Impression

Liverpool pair Raheem Sterling and Adam Morgan are doing their club proud for the England Under-17s at the World Cup in Mexico.

Sterling stuck the second in England's opening group game against Rwanda and on Wednesday club team-mate Morgan headed John Peacock's side ahead against Canada.

The 16-year-old Morgan has had a season to remember at Liverpool, after going on a run of 17 goals in 12 games, including a goal on his reserve team debut.

The duo are two of six Anfield players in the England squad, and Sterling, who himself scored five goals for the club in their Youth Cup win over Southend and was included in the first team squad that travelled to Sparta Prague in the Europa League, says establishing himself in the first team is his next aim.

“Liverpool is one of the best clubs in the world, so it is always going to be very difficult to break into the first team, the players at the club are of top quality – but it was a great experience for me when I was in the squad for the Europa League games last season.

"Hopefully I will be able break into the Liverpool first team on a more regular basis, but at a club like Liverpool you can’t just expect to walk into the team, you have to work hard."

Morgan meanwhile has already been compared to Robbie Fowler by Liverpool stalwart Mark Wright and having achieved so much as such a tender age, is predicted to have a big future ahead of him.

"We need to understand that Adam Morgan is a natural goalscorer who has quality," said Reds reserve coach Pep Segura.

Liverpool To Make Bid For Brest Striker Nolan Roux

Liverpool is the latest side to be credited with an interest in Brest striker Nolan Roux, according to France Football, and could move for the Frenchman this week.

The 23-year-old has attracted a plethora of suitors following a stellar Ligue 1 campaign in which he scored six goals in 28 appearances for the strugglers.

Liverpool director of football Damien Comolli is believed to be keen on Roux, with the report stating that a deal could materialize by the end of the week.

The striker has a contract with Brest that runs until 2013 and the French outfit will likely demand a fee of around £7.1 million.

Schalke and Bordeaux are also interested in the services of the Frenchman.

Gael Clichy Wants Move To Liverpool

Arsenal star Gael Clichy is favouring a move to Liverpool, despite interest from Serie A side Roma, according to The Times.

Liverpool has reportedly made an offer of £5 million for Clichy, but Arsenal is hoping for closer to £10 million for the star whose contract expires with the Gunners next summer.

While Roma are ready to offer £7 million – and will sell Mirko Vucinic to fund the deal for Clichy – the Frenchman isn’t convinced that a move to Italy will be best for his career.

Arsene Wenger is reportedly hopeful that Clichy won’t go to Liverpool because they might rival Arsenal for trophies, but with the 25-year-old wanting to stay in England, Wenger may have to accept that the star will head to another club of Arsenal’s caliber.

While Clichy has continually told the press that he wants to stay with Arsenal, and that Liverpool rumours are without merit, his delaying in signing a contract for the Gunners is giving way to speculation that he may in fact be interested in heading to Merseyside.

Roma have flown to London today, according to reports, but Clichy is still hopeful that Liverpool will up their offer to Arsenal in order to take on the left-back and fill a gap that has been a long term problem at Anfield.

Liverpool And Arsenal Target Moussa Sissoko

French midfielder Moussa Sissoko is being targeted by Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City for a move this summer.

The Toulouse star has been on the radar of British clubs for the past four years and turned down Liverpool and Bolton to sign with his French club as a teenager.

But now the 21-year-old is being lined up for a move to the Premier League, despite being under contract until June 2013

According to Lamine Drame, a source near the player, Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal are honing in on the French international.

Last season, Sissoko played 36 matches and scored five goals and has previously been valued at £18million.

Liverpool To Make £8m Tottenham Playmaker Move

Liverpool will attempt to lure Tottenham playmaker Niko Kranjcar as the Merseyside club looks to turn their attention away from Blackpool star Charlie Adam to the Croatian international.

Anfield director of football Damien Comolli has earmarked a move for the 26 year old who looks set to leave White Hart Lane after failing to convince boss Harry Redknapp that he is worthy of a regular starting spot.

26 year old Kranjcar arrived at the North London club in the summer of 2009 after he followed Redknapp from Portsmouth to Tottenham. However the cultured midfielder barely had a look in last season and only managed two Premier League starts and saw his first team chances further limited following the arrival in January of Everton’s South African international Steven Pienaar.

Kranjcar is determined not to be stuck on the Tottenham bench and would surely be tempted by a move to Liverpool. Comolli, who used to work as director of football at White Hart Lane, has recommended Dalglish pushes to purchase the former Hajduk Split.

Liverpool have seen their pursuit of Scottish international Charlie Adam go stale and have seen a number of other sides, including Tottenham and Man United, take an interest in the Tangerines midfielder and appear to now prefer a move for the £8m rated Kranjcar.

Liverpool’s new owners are willing to finance further moves for new additions having signed Luis Suarez and Andy Carroll in January and brought in Jordan Henderson from Sunderland earlier this month.

Kranjcar is also being chased by sides on the continent with the likes of Roma, Valencia and Paris Saint-Germain all taking an interest in the Zagreb born flair player but the Tottenham man is thought to be keen to stay in England having spent the last five years in the country where he, his wife and child have all settled.

Ex-Celtic Stopper Linked With Liverpool Switch

Liverpool are being linked with a move for ex-Celtic goalkeeper Artur Boruc, reports the Daily Mail.

The Polish goalkeeper, currently applying his trade with Fiorentina, earned 79 clean sheets in over 200 matches for the old firm side during a five year spell at Celtic Park.

Boruc left Celtic for Italy to become an understudy to Sebastien Frey and had to wait until November for his first start for the club.

The 31-year-old won three SPL titles while at Celtic, including two Scottish League Cups and one Scottish Cup.

Celtic has since replaced Boruc in the first-team with Lukasz Zaluska.

With Liverpool having lost out on signing Brad Friedel, Kenny Dalglish is still looking for a backup for Pepe Reina.

The likes of Alexander Doni and Hugo Lloris have both been linked with moves to Liverpool this summer.

Dalglish is expected to be provided with a large transfer kitty this summer, and has wasted little time splashing out on Jordan Henderson to help bolster Liverpool's midfield.

Liverpool Weigh Up Bid For Dimitri Payet

Liverpool is weighing up a bid for Saint-Etienne star Dimitri Payet, but will not pay the French club's £11 million asking price.

Damien Comolli, the Reds' director of football, is a huge admirer of the winger having worked with him at Saint-Etienne before leaving for Liverpool last November.

Payet, 24, is the subject of interest from Qatari-owned Paris Saint-Germain as well as French champions Lille, who are looking to replace Arsenal-bound Gervinho.

The France international is aware of interest from Liverpool and Goal.com understands he has been told that the Reds could be ready to enter the bidding as manager Kenny Dalglish looks to add some wide men to his squad.

Dalglish wants at least two wingers and is hoping to clinch the signing of £15m-rated Aston Villa star Stewart Downing.

But he is targeting at least one more wide player in the summer transfer window, having already missed out on Ashley Young and seen a move for Sylvain Marveaux fall through, amidst suggestions he failed a medical.

Comolli would be willing to pay around £6m for Payet, who scored 13 goals in 33 appearances last season and has been capped three times for the France national team.

Payet, who is under contract until 2013, is believed to favour a move to Anfield but Saint-Etienne will have to lower their expectations over the transfer value.

The French club's president, Roland Romeyer, revealed earlier this month that he had been in touch with English sides but insisted he would not let his star player leave on the cheap.

“There have also been calls from England,” said Romeyer. “But there is no question of letting Dimitri leave at any price.”

Another problem for Liverpool is the bad blood felt by Saint-Etienne after former Tottenham director Comolli criticized the working environment at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard.

Romeyer has said he felt “betrayed” by Comolli after he quit the club and accused him of squandering money on signings.

PSG's interest in Payet is becoming increasingly apparent, with reports suggesting the capital club have offered €8m (£7m) plus Jeremy Clement for the playmaker.

Aly Cissokho Emerges As Summer Anfield Target

Liverpool is once again being linked with a move for French international defender Aly Cissokho.

The Lyon left back, who made his only Les Bleus appearance against Norway in 2010, was linked with an Anfield switch in January following the arrival of Kenny Dalglish on Merseyside.

TalkSPORT now claims that the Reds are again considering a move for the 23-year-old, with the report going on to state that Liverpool would have to pay in the region of £9 million for the player.

Cissokho is seen as the ideal replacement for Paul Konchesky at Liverpool, who quickly fell out-of-favour at the club following the departure of former manager Roy Hodgson in January.

The left back spent the later stages of the season on loan at Nottingham Forest in the Npower Championship, and has been linked with a move to Wolves and Portsmouth as recently as this week.

Whilst young England international Jack Robinson rose to the challenge when stepping up to the Liverpool senior side at the end of last season, Dalglish is searching for a proven player in the position to help shore up the club's defence next season.

With a winger and striker also on the agenda at Liverpool, it promises to be a busy few months for the Scot after securing the services of Jordan Henderson for a reported £20 million a fortnight ago.

However, Dalglish will face competition for the signature, with Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini also interested in bringing the player to England after losing Jerome Boateng to Bayern Munich.

Nikola Saric To Join Hajduk Split After Being Released

Nikoa Saric is joining Hajduk Split on a free transfer after being released by Liverpool FC.

The Bosnian-born 20-year-old failed to break into the first team during three years at Anfield.

The striker was highly rated when the Reds beat off competition from Barcelona to sign him in 2008 but he failed to realize his potential. Saric wasn’t offered a new deal and is now heading for Croatia.

“Everything is going according to plan and there are no more obstacles for Nikola to move to Hajduk,” said his father Predrag Saric.

“In the next few days he will sign for the next three years.

“He is ready to move on after three years of pure hell at Anfield.”

Academy Glory For Young Reds

 

It was a dramatic Liverpool victory that sparked ecstatic celebrations at the Academy.

This young side may not have bragged the likes of Raheem Sterling and Conor Coady but the quality and spirit they showed in pulling off a late comeback against a dominant Manchester City was a credit to every boy in red.

The 3-2 win for a Liverpool team made up of under-16s from Stockbridge Village, put them top of the regional group of the annual Kickz Cup and forward to the national finals.

An under-14s side also represented Liverpool in Sunday's tournament, but despite a strong start, they finished third behind Everton and Manchester City.

The Kickz for Kids scheme, which began in 2006, involves Premier League clubs taking teenagers from disadvantaged areas, giving them free coaching and organizing them into teams of different age groups who then compete for a national cup.

On Sunday the Academy hosted the North West qualifiers, with teams from both Merseyside and Manchester clubs joined by Bolton, Blackburn and Wigan.

Liverpool under-16s' table-topping effort was no mean feat as they triumphed over a City side which made a rampant start, scoring 16 and conceding just twice in their opening four fixtures, thrashing rivals Man United 6-0 in the process.

But the gutsy Liverpool boys twice stopped them in their tracks, beating them 4-3, then 3-2 in that dramatic final game. Prior to that Liverpool lost to Wigan and drew with Everton which meant that they had to beat City to top the group.

The Reds took an early lead as Josh Cotton flicked into the path of Robbie McClintock who slotted calmly for 1-0. City twice hit back to turn the game on its head but late drama ensued as substitute Kyle Bretherton fired Liverpool level before Cotton connected with an Aaron Fitzsimmons cross to make it 3-2.

Meanwhile, Liverpool's under-14's made a flying start, notching up three victories over Bolton, Wigan and Man United before coming from a goal behind to win 2-1 against a strong Everton side.

However, the team every under-14s side had to beat was Manchester City, who hammered Everton 4-0 before beating Liverpool 2-1. The Eastlands outfit was superb all day, winning ten and drawing two, to take the group with ease.

Liverpool's junior side played some decent possession football and passed the ball neatly and incisively. Lewis Riley sprayed passes about the pitch; Jesse Dowling was lethal in front of goal and Georgie Roberts, their diminutive playmaker, pulled defences apart with his slaloming forward runs. But it was all to no avail as the under-14s finished third in the group, 12 points behind City.

Forbes Duff, Liverpool FC's Kickz co-ordinator, is hugely impressed with the national scheme: "It's a fabulous opportunity for the boys to come and play at the Academy, where so many great players have played and use the venue and the facilities," he said after Sunday's tournament.

"Kickz is all about giving the kind of kids who are here today special opportunities like this. I know from personal experience how much they look forward to and enjoy it."

Eddie Sullivan, manager of the under-14s side, who has been working with LFC In The Community for 11 years and as a Kickz coach for three, told Liverpoolfc.tv why the charity is so important.

"As a scheme it's absolutely brilliant in what it offers the kids. It works because it keeps them occupied and active, in a positive way, rather than having them hanging around the streets.

"You can see how successful the scheme is purely by the amount of clubs around the country who have become involved.

"Also it's great to see our two local clubs, Liverpool and Everton, working together along with the government and Merseyside Police, to give something back to the community."

Perhaps, most importantly, the boys themselves spoke of the positive effect it had on their lives.

Kyle Bretherton, midfield lynchpin for the victorious under-16s, summed the general feeling up perfectly: "Kickz is fantastic because it gets you off the streets and keeps you out of trouble. The coaches are the best part of it because they treat you like adults and as friends, not like children."

And as the ecstatic scenes on the Academy touchline following that stunning victory over Manchester City showed, the bond between players and coaches is indeed something special to behold.

Gerrard Excited By Transfer Activity

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard is hopeful the club's transfer activity this northern summer will give his side the opportunity to redress the balance in its long-running battle with Manchester United.

Sir Alex Ferguson's side edged one ahead of its arch-rival in terms of championship titles with its 19th success in May.

By contrast, Liverpool has not won the league since 1990 - when Kenny Dalglish was in charge first time around - and its last trophy of any kind was the 2006 FA Cup.

With owner Fenway Sports Group willing to invest heavily in players for the long-term future - having recently signed England Under-21 midfielder Jordan Henderson in a £20million deal - Gerrard is optimistic his club can match United and he will win more trophies before the end of his Anfield career.

"As a Liverpool fan and a player it's frustrating when you see your arch-rivals lifting trophies but you've got to give credit where it's due. They've won it, they've overtaken us," said the 31-year-old.

"Now the challenge for us is to equalize. We've got to make sure we've got a squad capable of going into the season and competing with Manchester United.

"It's a big statement by the club getting a big signing in early and now we're watching anxiously for a few more to follow. It's exciting times.

"It's important this team delivers very soon because we've been a number of seasons without putting a trophy in the cabinet and that's not what Liverpool is about.

"I want to play well, I want to score goals - but it's much more important that the team plays well and we all end the season happy."

Gerrard is currently undergoing a program of rehabilitation - the club's physios have been working with him every day at his holiday home in Portugal - after groin surgery in March but he will be ready for the start of pre-season.

It has been the longest spell on the sidelines of his career but the England midfielder is confident he and Liverpool will feel the benefit when the new campaign kicks off in August.

"I want to come back with a bang, I want to have a big season," Gerrard told liverpoolfc.tv.

"It's been non-stop football for me since I started when I was 17. I've never had a period of more than four or five weeks out of the game, so it's been nice to rest mentally.

"You don't want to miss games but when you're watching them it gives you that edge, that buzz to get back.

"I'll come back hungry and hopefully there's a very productive season ahead for me.

"I've had a rest mentally, my injury's coming on well and I can't wait for the season to start.

"There's still a lot of time for me to achieve bigger and better things. I'd like to finish my career with a few more trophies.

"I always look at the 35 marker. If I get there and I'm still involved with Liverpool I'll be delighted but at the moment I'm feeling as good as ever.

"I've had time to get my body right, get my body strong. I'm still four or five weeks away from playing a game but I believe I'll come back in better physical condition than I've ever been."

Dalglish Versus McLeish In Battle For Downing

Kenny Dalglish will refuse to give up on his pursuit of Stewart Downing, despite Aston Villa's reluctance to sell.

The Liverpool boss has identified England winger Downing as his number one attacking priority in the summer transfer window, and is ready to offer big money to get his man.

New Villa manager Alex McLeish has made keeping the exciting international one of his main priorities, as he looks to head off fan unrest at the club.

The Scots boss knows his arrival is hugely unpopular with the Villa Park faithful, and he accepts the inevitable sale of Ashley Young to Manchester United will hardly help matters.

Downing's departure too, could create mutiny amongst the fans, and McLeish knows he must fight tooth and nail to keep the player as he looks to calm the situation.

The new manager virtually confirmed yesterday that Young will leave, but he insisted the battle to keep Downing continues.

"No chance do we want Stewart Downing to go. We certainly don't want to lose Stewart - he's a top player," McLeish explained.

"I need to see what Stewart's thinking when he comes back because I know that he made some comments when he was away on England duty.

“I’ll have a chat with one or two in the coming days and weeks before pre-season training starts and once I get them in for pre-season training proper then I’ll get a better idea.

“It’s not confirmed yet but it does seem likely, that Ashley Young will leave. In my humble opinion it will be very difficult to keep him."

But Liverpool are still confident the winger wants to come to Anfield, and Dalglish believes he will get his man if a price can be thrashed out with the Midlands club.

Liverpool Face Competition From Chelsea In Eljero Elia Battle

Chelsea have joined the race for Hamburg winger Eljero Elia, according to reports.

The long-term Liverpool target is reportedly unsettled at Hamburg, and is again being linked with the Imtech Arena exit door after a turbulent second season with the Bundesliga outfit.

Former Reds boss Roy Hodgson was first linked with a move for the player in the summer of 2010, with his form for the Dutch national side in the World Cup alerting a number of sides throughout Europe.

Hodgson's successor at Anfield, Kenny Dalglish, was also linked with a move for the 24-year-old back in January, with Liverpool director of football Damien Comolli believed to be an admirer of the player.

After securing the services of Jordan Henderson for £20 million, the Liverpool boss is targeting a left back, striker and winger to bolster the club's ranks on Merseyside, and Elia is one of the widemen linked with a move.

Ashley Young, Eden Hazard and Charles N'Zogbia have also been speculatively placed on the Liverpool radar, and with money to spend Dalglish is likely to make a move for one of the targets sooner rather than later.

However, The Metro claims Chelsea have now joined the race for Elia, who is valued at £17 million according to the paper.

The arrival of Frank Arnesen at Hamburg is believed to give the Blues an advantage in the race for the player, with the west London club's former sporting director heavily involved in transfer activity at the club.

Arnesen has already raided the Stamford Bridge outfit for players and staff in the last month, and Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich will be hoping the former Denmark international might return the favour over Elia.

The former FC Twente star has previously confessed to being interested in a move to England, and may have options at his disposal should both Liverpool and Chelsea pursue their interest further.

Liverpool Join Race For Republic of Ireland Star

Liverpool is the latest club to join the race to sign Irish and Manchester United defender, John O’Shea.

The Waterford man is surplus to requirements at Old Trafford and will leave the club this summer.

It had originally been expected that he would join Sunderland, but the player has held out for the best deal available and is now being chased by five clubs.

It seems likely that he will turn down the Black Cats and hold out for an offer from the Anfield side. Spurs, Newcastle and Aston Villa are the other Premiership sides that have been linked with O’Shea.

Kenny Dalglish has made no secret of the fact that Liverpool need at least one central defender and quality winger, if they are to mount a serious challenge for the title next season.

Liverpool Make Move For Croatian International Defender

Liverpool is set to continue their summer spending spree with a move for promising Lyon defender Dejan Lovren.

The 21-year-old centre-back made 28 appearances in Ligue 1 last season after joining from Dinamo Zagreb for £8m last summer.

The Croatia international is contracted to Lyon until 2014 but has been placed on the transfer list and would command a fee in the region of £3million.

According to newspaper Le 10 Sport, Damien Comolli, Liverpool's French director of football, has already held meetings with Lyon in an attempt to seal the transfer.

Sunderland Hoping To Wrap Up Deal For David N'Gog

Liverpool striker David N'Gog was initially thought to be part of a player-plus-cash deal with Sunderland over Jordan Henderson, but the 22-year-old ended up staying with the Reds for the time being.

Sunderland is still keen on N'Gog, who has been deemed surplus by Kenny Dalglish, and are hoping to wrap up a deal soon.

Steve Bruce could land the young Frenchman for about £5 million, and he will likely get the chance to score against his former team right off the bat as Sunderland heads to Anfield on the first weekend of the 2011-2012 season.

Zapata Exit Talk Premature

Cristian Zapata's agent has played down reports the Udinese defender is set to complete a move to Liverpool.

Last week the Colombia international was quoted as saying he was close to sealing a deal with the Premier League giants.

Bayern Munich had also made an approach for the 24-year-old, who was previously a target of Arsenal.

But his agent, Massimo Italiani, believes Zapata's comments may have been misunderstood and suggested his immediate future will be best served by staying with Udinese.

"The statements coming from South America travel too many miles and sometimes they have different meanings from the original ones," he told notiziariosportivo.com.

"There is no news regarding his future.

"Of course, his dream is to play in the Premier League one day, but to leave a club like Udinese you need a request from a big club.

"Cristian will now be involved in the Copa America and we hope he will be a key figure after having a fantastic season with his club.

"Udinese is the ideal environment for him to grow without much pressure."

Zapata helped Udinese finish fourth in last season's Serie A and he still has two years left on his contract at the Stade Friuli.

Henchoz: Future's Bright With Kenny

Stephane Henchoz believes Kenny Dalglish will help Liverpool write another successful chapter in their illustrious history books.

The former Reds defender has been impressed by the impact the Scot has made since returning to the Anfield hot seat in January, during which time he steered the team from 12th to sixth in the Barclays Premier League.

And Henchoz is predicting Dalglish can position Liverpool amongst the forerunners for the game's top honours once again.

He told Liverpoolfc.tv: "I think the future looks bright. Kenny Dalglish is back as the manager and I am sure he is going to bring back success to Anfield. The players they have signed, especially Suarez, have done very well.

"The young players have got a lot of quality, so for me next year I think they will get back into the top four and from there they can push on from that.

"Hopefully in a couple of years time they can win the title."

Henchoz was back on Merseyside over the weekend as he helped a team of Liverpool legends to glory in the Selco Mersey Masters at the Echo Arena.

The Swiss defender displayed the sort of defensive qualities that made him such a hit with Reds fans during his five-and-a-half year spell at Anfield, as well as turning on the style in attack.

"I had a great time and winning the tournament made everybody, including the fans in the arena, happy," reflected Henchoz.

"I played in Malaysia a few months ago for the first time, and playing in the Masters in Liverpool and wearing the shirt again was a great pleasure.

"It's very different to when you are still playing because you just want to enjoy it. You still want to win, obviously, but you don't have the same pressure.

"It was nice to see the players again, come back to the city and have a drink with the lads. I think everybody really enjoyed it."

Manager Robbie Johnson To Make Liverpool Ladies Changes

Liverpool Ladies manager Robbie Johnson says he is intent on improving his squad ahead of the resumption of the Women's Super League in July.


The Reds are bottom of the new league and are without a win in seven games.


"The league table doesn't lie and we are where we are," Johnson told BBC Radio Merseyside.


"We're certainly on the lookout for new players, some to freshen up the squad and some to bring improved quality to the squad."


He added: "We're looking for a defender. We've brought a central midfield player in, Chloe Jones, who came in time for the last game of the first part of the season.


"We're trying to see if there are any other players that might be able to lift us in certain positions. It might be another forward that we need, to go with Ruesha Littlejohn but we'll have to see."


The mid-season break has coincided with the 2011 Women's World Cup in Germany, and having had time to reflect on the opening to the campaign, Johnson says there were a number of positives he can take.


"We're certainly looking to improve results," Johnson continued. "The performances at times have been OK, with the draws in the Birmingham and Everton games being examples of that.


"I believe the season stopped too early for us after the Birmingham result."


Liverpool resumes their FA WSL campaign away to Arsenal at Boreham Wood FC on Sunday, 24 July.
